Following events and action from the original Killzone for PlayStation 2, two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA is taking the fight to the enemy's home world of Helghan. The ISA goal is direct: capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt.
Notes:
Though it is named Killzone 2, it is actually the third game in the Killzone series and Guerrilla’s first next-generation title. After the famous (or infamous!) E3 trailer in 2005, for which I also provided the music and sound effects, there was a lot of hype and fan interest to live up to.
KZ2 upped the stakes in every department, and that included the music. Nearly 90 minutes of music was requested, of which 30 was to be recorded live for the cutscenes. Having been close to the franchise since its inception meant that I had a pretty clear idea what I wanted to do musically, with big, bold and recognisable themes for the main characters during the cutscenes and hard-edged percussive action music that would give the players a real sense of urgency and drive during the single player campaign. It was fantastic to revisit some of the earlier musical themes from Killzone 1 and expand on them for Killzone 2.
The live orchestral music was recorded at Abbey Road Studio 1 with the Nimrod Session Orchestra under the baton of Jonathan Williams, produced by Marc Canham and mixed by Rich Aitken.
